St. John: A Historic Settlement

With its namesake mirroring that of local churches and, more recently, the local elementary school, St. John is a small, rural, religious community. St. John AME Church has been the center point for the settlement for nearly 100 years. St. John’s Church of God in Christ is also respected for its continued ability to raise new Christian leaders who preach and start congregations of their own. Until 2006, it was also home to the oldest assisted living facility in Quincy, which Gretna and Robertsville also border. Proudly, the community continues to have the support
of a Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) research center that assists farmers in building their own businesses.
