North Star Legacy Communities: A Bicentennial Celebration is the third iteration of the North Star Legacy Communities Project. Initiated by Dr. Sandra Thompson of Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) and conducted by Florida State University’s Department of Urban and Regional Planning (FSU-DURP), the project focuses on documenting and preserving Legacy Communities in the Red Hills Region of Florida.

Following the success of the award-winning Jackson County and Gadsden County projects and with the support of the Florida Department of State’s Division of Historical Resources, the Summer 2024 Barnebey Planning and Development Lab (Studio) Team worked to document Leon County’s Legacy Communities.

The Summer 2024 team would like to thank the many Leon County Legacy Community members, stakeholders, faculty, and staff who contributed information and guidance throughout the development of this project.
